Westport Flea Market Still Serving Great Burgers
On the Pitch's Best Burger list
by Sarah Cousineau

The Pitch just listed the top burgers in Kansas City and it’s no surprise that the Westport Flea Market made the list. Charles Ferruzza notes the Westport fixture (over 30 years) in his July 1st column in the Pitch. He also mentions that the…“secret is out: they’re all under $10”. But inexpensive doesn’t mean sacrificing quality Ferruzza highlights the prime ingredient of their burgers – McGonigle’s ground chuck grilled to perfection in the kitchen. The entire story can be read here: Ten Great Burgers Under $10, No Winstead’s and No Town Topic”
If you’ve never been, listen to how they describe their place on the restaurant website: "We’re Kansas City’s quirky, funky, 30+ year old local-dining institution. Boasting some of the country’s best made-to-order eats served up with a healthy side of atmosphere, nostalgia, local history, and a stubborn resistance to change." There’s so much happening at the Flea: daily specials, video games, pool, karaoke, live music, happy hour and much more. With 44 domestic, micro brews and imports beers on tap, you’re sure to find your favorite.
The Food Network’s Meat and Potatoes host Rahm Fama tasted an unbelievably juicy bargain burger at Westport Flea Market.  “It’s like eating a quality steak in a bun,” said Fama. Watch the whole segment from the Food Network here
In 2006, Joe Zwillenberg saved the Flea market from Hooter’s, a chain that almost went into the hallowed space. Joe had been to the Flea often for great burgers and really wanted to keep the best burger right in Westport. “You’re only as good as your last burger” said Joe when asked about his success.
Joe expanded his kitchen to increase space for his catering company, Joe Joe’s. They cater breakfast, lunch and dinner to parties of all sizes. Joe Joe’s Catering started in 1996 and has grown exponentially since then. They can cater office meetings, receptions, rehearsal dinners, picnics or any other event. They can also cater in one of the three on-site party rooms available, or deliver within 100 miles of the Westport Flea Market to your venue.
If you grew up in Kansas City, you may have already experienced the Westport Flea Market. If you haven’t, it’s about time you did.
