“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”— Dr. Seuss, “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!”
Each week, Central Bank staff use their lunch hour reading to 2nd graders at Phillips at Attucks Elementary School. Lead to Read is a local organization that started in area urban schools back in 2010. The program launched with a very few classrooms in 2010 and now has grown to 50 classrooms in KCPS, Center and charter schools with over 1000 volunteers. The program reaches kids early - in grades 1-3 - when they’re developing and mastering basic reading skills. The program pairs each student with an adult reader for 30 minutes of one-on-one time reading time.
