Paseo Gateway's Choice Neighborhoods
Some exciting housing projects are happening in the Northeast, right around our main branch on Independence Avenue - it’s all part of the Paseo Gateway Choice Neighborhoods Project. In September of 2015, the KC Housing Authority and the KC municipal government were awarded a $30 million federal housing grant. The grant was designed to replace Chouteau Courts, but also to transform the surrounding area in what’s now being called the Paseo Gateway district (includes Pendleton Heights and portions of Independence Plaza and Paseo West neighborhoods). Besides creating mixed-income housing (improved housing from the aging Chouteau Courts), the Choice Neighborhood project will also help create educational opportunities and increase employment for residents, which in turn will create vibrant neighborhoods. That’s why the project includes focus on not only housing, but also people and neighborhoods.
