Welcome to 2012
by Randall L. Tate, CNB Loss Mitigation Officer

Well, we made it through another turbulent year in terms of the economy and the housing industry. At best, the state of the economy is sluggish and there are many who maintain that we are “stuck in a rut”. But, at CNB, we choose to take the high road. 2011 did provide modest economic growth with 1.5 million jobs added. Yes, we are still experiencing high levels of unemployment nationwide, but each month those percentages are decreasing in most areas. Still, there’s no real housing recovery when we’re looking, nationally, at 11 million mortgages that are “underwater” (mortgage balance is greater than the current value of the home), 6 million mortgages that are 30+ days delinquent, and 2 million new foreclosures in 2011 with a greater number predicted for 2012.

CNB Staff Donates Generously
At County National Bank’s recent annual holiday staff party, a 50/50 drawing was held to benefit two organizations that host holiday dinners for those in need. Bank employees responded generously and a total of $650 was donated to the Hillsdale Community Health Center in Hillsdale and Queen’s Parish Community Wide Holiday Dinner in Jackson.

In addition, during the month of December, the staff and customers of County National Bank’s Hillsdale Office collected 258 canned goods and other food items for the Salvation Army of Hillsdale. CNB provided a match amount for every food item collected and was proud to be able to donate $145 in addition to the food. The bank also donated turkeys for the Salvation Army’s Christmas baskets.

No matter how cold or blustery your winter has been, just remember it could always be worse. Comfort yourself by having a look at some of the world’s coldest locations, and your own winter experience might end up seeming downright balmy.

Play with Your Food
Eco-friendly, veggie-based products

Photo: Play with Your Food Your mother may have told you not to play with your vegetables, but if she had known you could build an entire car out of them, perhaps she would have reconsidered her stance. Vegetable-based products are certainly not new; however, with green technology stepping up its game, these products are better and more decomposable than ever.
