Meet the Face of Dedham Savings
Beverly Somerville, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Officer

Many customers know Beverly Somerville’s smiling face from her eleven years working as a Community Loan Officer at Dedham Savings. For the last year, Beverly has been working in her new role as Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Officer. The Community Reinvestment Act requires that financial institutions help meet the credit needs of their local communities, including low-moderate-income neighborhoods. Beverly’s role is to oversee these activities at Dedham Savings.

When she joined the Bank in October 2000, Beverly was hired to originate mortgages and perform community outreach in our Boston markets including Roslindale, West Roxbury, Hyde Park, Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan and Jamaica Plain. She is still working hard to serve these neighborhoods although she no longer works with mortgage customers directly. Her long list of responsibilities at Dedham Savings now includes monitoring residential and commercial lending to ensure we serve our communities, including low to moderate income neighborhoods and educating the Bank staff on programs such as Federal Home Loan Bank grants, Soft Second, Mass Housing and Affordable Housing programs.

If you are receiving checks by mail for VA, Social Security, other federal benefits or nontax payments, you should know that you will soon be required to switch to electronic payments. The U.S. Department of the Treasury is mandating that this change take place before March 1, 2013. People applying for new benefits will need to use e-payments from the get-go, so it is important to learn what they entail before applying.

Either way, the question is how can you save money on your grocery bill while also helping the environment?

Workplace Posters
What posters does your business need to display?

Photo: Workplace Posters All employers are required to clearly display a number of posters that detail important state and federal labor laws at each of their business locations. These posters should be placed in an easily accessible and visible area to ensure that employees can refer to them and discover new posted notices. The posters should be placed in a location that is visible not only by current but also by future employees.

Five SUV Alternatives
Fuel efficiency and driving dynamics in vehicles that donít sacrifice cargo space

Photo: Five SUV Alternatives The car-buying public often dreams of the versatility, all-terrain capabilities, seating and cargo space afforded by sport utility vehicles but can also be made skittish by the poor fuel economy and perhaps even the sheer size of SUVs. As several new crossovers, sport utility wagons and even vans demonstrate, however, the car-buying public may just be able to have its cake and eat it too.
