Teamwork Changes Everything

Liz Birch
Assistant Vice President
United Way Chairperson for HomeTown Bank

As HomeTown Bank’s United Way Chairperson, I’m excited to announce that HomeTown Bank had a successful United Way Campaign! The slogan for this year was” _____ Changes Everything”.  We asked the employees to fill in the blank.  We received many answers – all of which are true.  Some of the responses we received were “kindness”, “hope”, “teamwork”, “a smile”, and many more that are all appropriate.  With this year’s slogan we thought it was a great opportunity to make some changes too and did things a little differently.  We focused on getting more employees to pledge rather than participate in various activities. It was a success and we increased the number of employees that are participating through employee pledging. The United Way brings out the best in everyone each year.

Our campaign took place October 28th through November 1st.  The week included dressing up for theme days such as Sports Day, Think Pink for breast cancer awareness, School Spirit Day, and even Halloween costumes!  Since the Astros were in the World Series, most of the employees rocked their Astros gear for the week.  Paying to wear jeans and be casual while at work is always the biggest hit.  We ended the week by having our annual United Way Bake Sale.  Employees participated in this by baking their favorite goodies and/ or by “buying” their favorite goodies.  Our donation bowl was full before we even opened the doors to our customers.

Thank you to everyone who participated and/ or donated.  There is a tremendous need out there and we are so glad we can help the United Way and all of their partner agencies.  We are excited to do it all again year!
