Its Show-and-Tell Time!

Karen and I are going to see all of you at the Travel Seminar on January 23, right?
If you haven’t already signed up for our annual get-together detailing all of the year’s trips, please call or email us by the January 9 reservation deadline so we have enough materials and refreshments for everyone. And please make sure to include your phone number so we can call you in case of bad weather. Of course, we’ll have a few prizes, too – as well as our much-anticipated “Northern California’s Finest” special presentation and sign-up.
I hope you will be very happy with our selections this year, for a few reasons:
The When – Most of our day trips are during the weekend: Many of you lobbied to have more trips on a Saturday or Sunday; in fact, Karen tells me that was a major topic of conversation when Club 50 attended Billy Elliot: The Musical on a Sunday … when there were a lot of new faces, mainly those of you working Monday-Friday!
The Where -- We’re also very focused on the Boston area this year on many of our day trips: We received such a great response to our Upper Deck Trolley Tour last spring, on which so many of you commented that you hadn’t been to the city in years and were very interested in seeing how it has changed. So instead of only getting a chance to go when relatives come to town, we’re providing a few other opportunities to enjoy our own “backyard”!
Our lineup is also a direct response to asking you to fill out a survey whenever you travel with us. As you review the rest of this eNewsletter, I hope you’ll recognize many places you listed.
So we look forward to seeing you at the Travel Seminar. And if a good number of us seem extra excited that afternoon, it may have something to do with the fact that we will be just one week away from escaping the New England winter for 11 glorious days! I’m so happy to be joining over 40 of you heading to Fort Lauderdale on January 30 and then boarding the Celebrity Equinox for our Ultimate Caribbean Cruise. We promise to share the pictures after we return February 10!

Holiday Party Donation

Recently retired Club 50 Coordinator and Watertown Rotarian Joan Galgay presents a $5,000 check to the Watertown Rotary Club, on behalf of the 3,500-plus Club 50 members. Other Watertown Rotarians (from left to right): Ron LeSanto, WSB President Brett Dean, Watertown Rotary President Terry Griffith, Len Holt, John Airasian, and Allen Gallagher.

Watertown Savings Bank continued its recent annual tradition of announcing at a Club 50 Holiday Party that they have made a donation to a local non-profit organization on behalf of Club 50 members. This year, WSB President Brett Dean asked Joan what organization she would like to see receive the $5,000. “It was an easy decision to choose the Watertown Rotary Club as they do so much for so many different groups in town,” Joan noted. Here are the previous recipients:
  • 2012: The Waltham Boys & Girls Club
  • 2011: Operation American Soldier
  • 2010: GWArc (Greater Waltham Association for Retarded Citizens Inc.)
  • 2009: Watertown Boys & Girls Club
  • 2008: Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association
(See more photos from the holiday parties – at Travel Seminar 2014 or by clicking on WSB Photo Album in red on the left. Are you on Facebook? Just find us at Watertown Savings Bank-Massachusetts.)

Tell us what you think -- and have a chance to win!
Thank you to all of the Club 50 members who responded to our “Resolve to Experience More!” question from the December newsletter: Which of the following do you want to visit more of in 2014?
The choices and responses were:
1st choice: Natural wonders in the U.S. (55%)
2nd choice: Other countries (27%)
3rd choice (tie): Trains; Concerts (9%)
And congratulations to Antonietta C. of Watertown, the winner of a $25 gift certificate towards a Club 50 trip!
For this newsletter’s question – and your chance at that gift certificate – please respond to the “Onboard Entertainment” survey on the left by February 12.
