Snow? What Snow?!
by Connie Braceland
Last month we promised pictures of our Ultimate Caribbean Cruise – and we’re happy to deliver! Please feel free to take a well-deserved break from the brutal cold and never-ending snow and enjoy the Featured Photo below as well as photos posted on the WSB website and on Facebook. Just take in that sun along with the palms, the bougainvillea, the birds of paradise, the open sea … there, now don’t you feel better?

The weather couldn’t have been finer for our group, as we flew to Fort Lauderdale January 30, boarded the Celebrity Equinox the next day, and delighted in the sights on St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Maarten before returning to Fort Lauderdale and home February 10. Thanks to Ruth Rudnick at Travel Showcase for making sure everyone was taken care of and everything was extra special! Smooth sailing all the way. Great ship, great food, great company.

That cruise cabin was the perfect cure for “cabin fever” … and last month’s Travel Seminar seemed to cure a bit of it too: The amount of you signing up for the September 25-October 4 “Northern California’s Finest” was absolutely phenomenal. We sold out at the seminar! In fact, so many members signed up that we were able to organize a second trip August 14-23. We still have space open on that August trip, so let us know if you’re interested.

We also – as of press time – have 4 seats left on the Mamma Mia! March 16 trip, as we had such a long waiting list so we lobbied to receive more tickets and make everyone happy! So give us a call if you would like to join us for brunch at the Hotel Providence and the excellent show at the Providence Performing Arts Center. How good is it? Some of our members who signed up have already seen it six times!

Karen and I sincerely thank you for all of the positive feedback you have given us. We are so happy that you are happy with the 2014 trips … and we look forward to bringing you more great opportunities to have fun!

Culinary Celebrations

Many of you have told us you’re hankering for a St. Patrick’s Day tradition: corned beef and cabbage. The luck of the Irish is with you! Club 50 member Mary Barry brought to our attention the annual Irish Night she puts together for the Sacred Heart Travel Club. This year it’s on Saturday, March 15, at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church’s McEntee Hall (lower church), 770 Mt. Auburn Street, Watertown. Corned beef & chicken dinner is courtesy of Maria’s Catering. Just call Mary (617-924-2226) for tickets ($20).

And Connie has a special Club 50 discount for you! As Chair of the Waltham West Suburban Chamber of Commerce, she is involved in presenting the 22nd Annual Waltham Food & Wine Festival, on Wednesday, April 23, from 6-9 p.m. It’s hosted at our most recent Holiday Parties site – the Westin Waltham Hotel. Tickets will be discounted to just $40 for Club 50 members. Just give Connie a call, send an email, or stop by!

Club 50s James Bond?

Doesn’t Joe Anastasi look just like that dapper and debonair Agent 007 – especially being flanked by a bevy of beauties (left to right: wife Pat Acton, Martha Rotondi, Peggy Anderson, and Sharon LaCasse)? Our Club 50 members rose to the occasion for a Formal Night on the Celebrity Equinox during their 10-day Caribbean Cruise in late January-early February. Read all about it in Connie’s column! (See more photos from the cruise by clicking on WSB Photo Album in red on the left. Are you on Facebook? Just find us at Watertown Savings Bank-Massachusetts.)

Tell us what you think -- and have a chance to win!

Thank you to all of the Club 50 members who responded to our “Onboard Entertainment” question from the January newsletter: Which celebrity would you most love to join you on a trip?

The choices and responses were:
1st choice: Meryl Streep (22%)
2nd choice (tie): Tom Selleck, Ellen DeGenres (17%)
3rd choice (tie): Bill Gates, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jay Leno (9%)
4th choice (tie): Alex Trebek, Dame Judi Dench, Keith Lockhart, Tom Brady (4%)

And congratulations to Thomas C. of Waltham, the winner of a $25 gift certificate towards a Club 50 trip!

For this newsletter’s question – and your chance at that gift certificate – please respond to the “Cabin Fever Reliever” survey on the left by March 7.
