Tell A Friend
Be Well With Us!
by Connie Braceland
Has it already been a year since coming aboard Club 50? Time does fly when you’re having fun … especially when it’s sightseeing in New Orleans, cruising along the Danube, and island-hopping in the Caribbean, as well as seeing all of you on the trips, at the holiday parties, and here in the office!
How to celebrate? Now that it’s spring, we decided to try a special healthy treat! At this year’s Travel Seminar, the top vote-getter for a seminar topic was Improving Health & Well-Being. We’re going to approach your request from two spokes in the hub of good health – To Your Health: Financial Wellness & Nutritional Wellness – on Tuesday, May 6.
We’ll be learning about how to improve our financial health with Kevin Flynn, Regional Vice President, New England, for Nationwide Financial, who will present Planning for Healthcare in Retirement, featuring the retirement income challenge, understanding health care, and creating a plan to address health care costs.
Then we’ll get the scoop on how to “invest” in our nutritional wellness with Belinda Gilbertson, RD, LDN, President of Mass Dietetic Services LLC, in Waltham. Belinda is an award-winning Registered Dietitian with over 10 years of experience in health care, nutrition counseling, medical nutrition therapy, public speaking, and program development. She has an unprecedented track record in facilitating the achievement of nutrition and weight management goals of thousands of clients and patients.  She is profoundly knowledgeable in the practice of medical nutrition therapy for treating health issues including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and eating disorders in people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
A question-and-answer session will follow for each of our speakers. PLEASE NOTE:A reservation is needed to attend, as seating is limited for this seminar, co-sponsored by Club 50 along with Sandy Penchansky, CFP®, Financial Advisor with Infinex Investments, Inc., located at Watertown Savings Bank. So please call me or Karen by April 29, and we’ll be happy to provide you with the details. If we receive a huge response, we’ll try to do what we do on many of our most-popular trips – so nice we’ll have it twice!
Also to add a bit of “health” to your wallet, don’t forget that we are offering Club 50-discounted tickets to the Waltham Food & Wine Festival on April 23 and the Taste of the Towns on May 1. Please feel free to call us for that as well.
And this just in – Senior Movie Day details! Frank Joyce of Joyce Funeral Home, who sponsors the popular annual event along with Watertown Savings Bank, The Chateau Restaurant, and Mt. Auburn Hospital, has announced that the Jack Lemmon/ Shirley MacLaine/ Fred MacMurray classic The Apartment will be presented for free at the Embassy Cinema in Waltham on Wednesday, May 21. The movie is at 1 p.m., preceded by entertainment from Bob Vanaria at 12:30 p.m. Also enjoy free refreshments, goodie bags, and raffle prizes! To reserve your seat, call Maura at the Joyce Funeral Home at 781-894-2895 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday). Karen and I hope to see you there!

Mamma Mia, What a Sunday!

Which one’s the “Dancing Queen”? Club 50 kicked up our heels in Providence last month! We had a smooth and sunny ride to the swanky Hotel Providence for a leisurely brunch – where Martha Rotondi (right, with Gene and Marie O’Brien and Craig Russell) – jumped at the chance to help the day trip’s manager, Ron LeSanto, re-create a few of the steps from his tango at the recent “Dancing with the Stars” benefit for Watertown Education Foundation. Then we headed two blocks over to the Providence Performing Arts Center to enjoy our orchestra seats to the absolutely infectious musical Mamma Mia! The dancing … the vocals … the comedy … and those outfits!  It was a high-energy kick off to our 2014 day trips, and we were happy to be able to do it on a Sunday -- we had fun seeing a lot of our members who aren’t available for our weekday trips.

Dunkin Bests Starbucks!

Thank you to all of the Club 50 members who responded to our “What’s the Buzz?” question from the March newsletter: In honor of National Caffeine Awareness Month, what's your favorite way of enjoying the perks of caffeine?
The choices and responses were:
1st choice: Brewing a pot of coffee at home (46%)
2nd choice: Stopping at Dunkin' Donuts (36%)
3rd choice: Stopping at Starbucks (18%)
And congratulations to Maureen M. of Wellesley, the winner of a $25 gift certificate towards a Club 50 trip!
For this newsletter’s question – and your chance at that gift certificate – please respond to the “Preferred Park-ing” survey on the left by May 1.
